Obituary of Lola Frances Chisholm
Our dear mother Lola Frances (Sangster) Chisholm, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2019 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. She was born on April 14, 1925 in New Glasgow to Allison and Annie Sangster.
Mom was a precious Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and was devoted to her family. She had a very strong work ethic and was always there to help all of us, no matter what the chore.
She was happiest when cooking her beautiful dinners for the whole family, and no one could match her tasty dressing and homemade pies and biscuits. As each grandchild and great-grandchild was announced, she would make her special hand knit sweaters, bonnets and booties for each one. She dearly loved each one of these children and attended many of their hockey games and other functions. Mom was a talented “self-taught” artist and did many paintings that adorned her home and the homes of her children. She loved swimming at the beach in the summer and was a beautiful skater during the winter months.
Mom was a very active lady. She was an avid bowler, played badminton, cross country skied, and was very proud to own her own “Ski-doo” to enjoy with her family. Mom could often be seen working in her beautiful flower garden which she loved so much.
Mom is survived by daughter Karen (Graham) MacDonald, Linacy and their children David (Jenifer)- great -grandchildren Cale, Josh, Matthew, and Blair; Bryan (Dawn) – great-grandchildren Robert and Madelyn; Steven (Bernadette)- great-grandchild Lily; son James “Jim”, Trenton and his children Daniel, Parker and Sarah. Son Ken (Kathy), Lorne and his children Laurie (Dustin) and Allyson and great- grandchild, Kayleigh. Daughter Pat (Donald) Dean, Stellarton and their children Jason (Annika) – great-grandchildren Ethan and Delaney and Kevin (Tabitha) and great-grandchildren Christian and Lola. Also survived by a daughter-in-law Vivian Macleod and a sister-in-law Belle Sangster and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband J. Lloyd Chisholm in 1996; sister Mildred Dorrington; brothers Lloyd, Graham and Robert Sangster.
Mom will be missed by her whole family but especially by Karen and Pat who considered her a best friend as well as their Mother and have a lifetime of great memories of the three of them together.
Lola was a member of First Presbyterian church, Stellarton.
There will be a private family celebration of Lola’s Life with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating and burial to follow in the Lorne Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Donations in Lola’s memory may be given to the Pictou County CHAD Transit or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Aulayne Jeans and the nursing staff of 4 South as well as Dr. Anne Kwasnik and the nurses of Palliative Care for their compassionate care. Also, special thanks to Nancy Terris for being there for Mom.
