Archibald, Ethel Florence, age 88, of Antigonish, formerly of Denver, GuysboroughCounty, passed into the nearer presence of God on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Born in Glenelg, GuysboroughCounty, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jean (Fisher) Hattie. As a young woman she taught school in Lower Caledonia and Aspen, before marrying Robert (Bob) Archibald of Denver. She spent 25 fulfilling years working at SherbrookeVillage as a guide and later as assistant head guide. Ethel put the needs of others first and took a keen interest in serving God and others through her church and community. She was a dedicated member of Glenelg Presbyterian Church where she nurtured children in Christian Faith through Explorers, and Sunday School—serving as Superintendent for many years. She also sang in the choir, and was an active leader in the AMS and Rose Auxiliary. In her community she faithfully served in the Home and School, Women’s Institute, and Sunlight Rebekah Lodge. Ethel was gifted in a variety of crafts including knitting, crocheting, quilting, beading, and took pleasure in baking for the enjoyment of her family and community. At the RK she continued to enjoy her knitting and colouring. She was happiest when her whole family was gathered ‘round the table. Hard work, courage, honesty, and integrity were the hallmarks of her character.
